blue-state blues,
red-state mean reds
So I figured that after my optimistic, idealistic, liberal-istic entry yesterday, I should at least say something as a follow-up. Let-s see—how about—
FUCK.
Okay, that about does it for me.
Seriously, if you want thoughtful, intelligent commentary on the election, there are a million places to go for it, but this ain’t one of ‘em. I’m just really, really disappointed and discouraged. As I listened to the concession speech this afternoon I realized: damn, I was really starting to like this guy. Actually like him, I mean, not just see him as the only viable option. Hell, to me, intelligence IS charisma! Or at least a really important sub-category of it. Hasn’t anybody ever heard “smart is sexy?” (No, I’m not trying to say that Kerry is sexy. On the other hand, I don’t think he’s as horsey as everybody else seems to, either.) Plus, I also really liked Kerry’s family. I’m personally in mourning over the fact that we aren’t going to have Teresa as first lady. When we’ve got people calling her “opinionated” and meaning it as the worst kind of insult to hurl at a woman—other than “fat,” of course, which, as many have noted, people were already busy flinging at Elizabeth Edwards—First Lady Teresa (aka the Anti-Laura) would have been just what the doctor ordered. And Alex and Vanessa? Let’s not even pretend to draw comparisons with Barbara and Jenna. Oh wait. I just did.
Ah, fuck it. No point crying over spilled democracy. And no time, either. Ive got one book due in 2 weeks and another due in 4—granted, the second deadline is sort of an imaginary (or at least arbitrary) one, but it’s still a deadline, dammit. And now? Now I’m going to bed.
